Defending Your Driving Rights, Protecting Your Future.
Having your driver’s license suspended or revoked is a definite hardship in today’s society. With few public transportation options and those available being generally time-consuming and inconvenient, your ability to drive is a precious resource. If you have lost your license, however, you may be able to qualify for an occupational driver’s license, also known as a “restricted” or “hardship” license. You will have to petition for this with the proper court where it will be ruled upon by a judge.
At Aaronson Law Firm, we focus much of our practice on traffic law and license-related matters. Our attorney is deeply familiar with the process of seeking an occupational license for those in need. We can draft and file the civil petition on your behalf and provide the guidance you need for navigating this process. With decades of experience in such matters, our firm has the knowledge and skills to help you in pursuing the license you need for work, school, and other destinations.

You may have lost your license due to a DWI, too many moving violations accumulating in points on your record, due to driving without insurance, reckless driving, or having caused a traffic-related injury or death. Whatever the circumstances, you need to remedy the situation properly. Driving on a suspended/revoked license will only make matters worse; it can result in an extended suspension/revocation period and/or additional penalties and fees.
Fortunately, occupational licenses are available for many drivers, allowing you to drive under limited circumstances even while you are technically without a standard license. However, you will have to qualify for this by securing an SR22 insurance policy. This type of insurance lets the state of Texas know should the policy be canceled or terminated because of lack of payment or other reasons. You will also have to file a petition with the court that must be approved by a judge.
An occupational license will generally specify the conditions under which you may drive. These can include:
Once you apply for an occupational license, a State Attorney will be notified of the court hearing that will decide the matter. That attorney will then be able to attend the hearing and present to the judge evidence against you. For this reason, it is essential that you have our firm draft your petition and represent you at the court hearing to give you the best chance of a favorable result.

Eligibility for these two processes also differs. The only individuals who are eligible to seek nondisclosure are those who were granted deferred adjudication. Deferred adjudication occurs when a judge does not enter a finding of guilt after you have pleaded guilty or “no contest” but instead puts you on probation. This probation allows you to keep the conviction off of your criminal record. However, your arrest for the offense and the deferred adjudication will remain on your record. You will have had to complete the terms of the probation imposed by the judge to achieve this. Some crimes are never available for nondisclosures, such as certain sex crimes, kidnapping, murder, human trafficking, and domestic violence crimes.
Expunction is not available for anyone who was convicted of a crime. Those individuals who are eligible to seek an expunction only include the following:
